Catching Up With Cole

March 28, 2025

This month marks four whole years since we first introduced you to Cole and his incredible family. Over the years, we've watched their journey with admiration, knowing that every challenge they face is met with resilience, love, and an unshakable spirit.

We recently checked in with Cole’s mom, Jennifer, to see how they’re doing. She shared that Cole was in the hospital for a few days, but true to his strength, he’s making great strides and is on the path back home. Her message is a beautiful reminder of the power of community, generosity, and the impact of standing together.

In her own words:

"Hi there! Thank you so much for the kindness and support.  Cole is on a better path now. We are hoping to be discharged tomorrow. We feel so grateful to have a team that works hard to help him. That's his medical team as well as the team of supporters- like The Chivers!  So, I feel it's a good time to share our gratitude in light of his positive turn towards heading back home. I'm even wearing one of my KCCO shirts here at the hospital today. I always remember what we can accomplish because of the ways you all have been there for us.

The last few years since the Chive blessed us beyond belief have been a challenge for Cole's health. His disorder is progressive with age, and he faces more struggles than ever. I can't imagine how we would have been able to take the best care of him without all Chive has done for him. Because of your generosity, he has a medical bed, a step in bathtub with technology that helps his skin, his own "apartment" filled with his favorite things, improved AC and air filtering in his room, a travel wheelchair (that he is using currently). We were also able to pay off a few bills so that one of us could take turns being home with him.  Also, we have to travel to Cincinnati often for his care. During the time that the Chive granted us, all of those visits were stress free. It made it possible to concentrate on his care and not the financial burden of travel expenses and missing work. We cannot thank the Chive community enough for being so supportive. Everyone is so positive and uplifting. Our spirits are lifted knowing we have a tribe of supporters. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. KCCO!"
