On an early Sunday morning in August 2013, Isaiah Martin was born with more than 12 fresh and healing fractures, the result of a devastating condition called Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI). Known more commonly as brittle bone disease, Isaiah was diagnosed with Type III, the most severe form in babies who don’t die as newborns. Isaiah has suffered more than 120 broken bones in his seven years of life, yet he faces each challenge with optimism and positivity that belies his age. He truly is remarkable.

When you meet Isaiah, you’ll quickly learn that he’s a big fan of elevators. (He even knows the name of all the major manufacturers.) Until last year, Isaiah used a manual wheelchair for mobility. Now, at last, he has the power wheelchair he needs to gain more freedom and independence - and to finally reach the elevator buttons all by himself. The only problem is that the family doesn’t have a wheelchair-accessible van to transport the power chair. Without it, Isaiah and his power wheelchair are stuck at home.

Enter Chive Charities. When we heard his story, we knew we needed to step in and help. After all, the OI community was a familiar one to us - we provided life-changing grants for two other OI warriors, including Hannah B. and Zoe Lush, the latter of whom was Chive Charities’ first-ever rare medical recipient in 2012.

So, as part of our first Giving Tuesday campaign, we’ve partnered with STRATACACHE on the goal of raising $50,000 to fund an ADA-accessible van for Isaiah and his family. Your donation, matched dollar-for-dollar by STRATACACHE, will change Isaiah’s life forever and give him the freedom he wants and deserves. Help us bring it all full circle. DONATE HERE.
