Team 10 Percent Day

Editor's note: We're extending the Team 10% Day through 11:59pm on Wednesday, October 23rd to accommodate those who said they couldn't participate until tomorrow. 

WHAT?

From now until the end of October 23rd, we’re launching our Team 10 Percent Day campaign. We’re rallying our community and inviting new supporters to make the world a better place, at least 10% happier.

WHY?

The stakes couldn’t be higher. In 2023, we launched a new mobile-friendly grant application, giving hope to hundreds who previously couldn’t access our online application to request crucial, life-giving aid. Overnight, we went from receiving 2-5 new weekly requests to 15-20 new application submissions per week. For the first time in our 12 year history, we found ourselves turning away more worthy individuals than we could say yes to. We’d budget to assist 15 Veterans, first responders, military families, and individuals with rare medical conditions. But there were always 20-25 families with the most heart wrenching stories and most desperate of needs. They had nowhere else to go after having the door shut in their faces everywhere they turned.

“If you build it they will come”

What did we do? We overextended ourselves. We said yes to just a few more families than we knew we had budget for. There were families putting their lives, dreams, and hopes in our hands. We couldn’t turn our backs and let them down. We’d take a leap of faith with them and do everything we could, even if it meant stepping out of our comfort zone.

Just as Chive Charities is there to catch those falling in despair, we’re looking for champions to take the leap of faith with us. Will you champion those with nowhere else to turn? You saying yes will most likely be the difference between telling an aspiring applicant yes.

Applicants like Kobe, a young man who smiles despite recent severe medical setbacks caused by rare Fragile X syndrome.

Our goal is to have 50 champions participate in our campaign by the end of 10/22/24, bringing hope to those families who would otherwise have the door shut on them once again.
